Stats Update for Cake
Monday, June 23rd 2008 5:09 am |
The project is only on Cake for the moment because of the high rake at Full Tilt at the micro games. Cake is a unique placeto play, and it tooka little getting used to playing against people who just absolutely can not fold. So many bad players I actually had two small losing sessions before I made the right adjustments and caught a few cards. I've made $24 in about 5 hours of play at four tables. Assuming four tables will get me 250 hands per hour (should be very close), that's 1,250 hands.
Since $24 is 240 big blinds, I can divide that by 1,250/100 or 12.5 to get my big blinds per 100 hands to get 19.2 big blinds per 100 hands. Not incredible, but not bad considring I was getting used to the game and learning about it. I made a few calls I would not usually have made in the interest of learning how things worked and getting a good feel for the games. Now that I have a good feel for the games I can beat them with confidence and write an excellent guide to them.
Speaking of the guide, I will be doing guides every two or three levels as I move up, and the first one will be on Cake micro no-limit games. That guide should be up within a week, I just have to get all my notes sorted from the games I have been playing and make sure everything is covered.
It's been very odd getting used to the games on Cake, with most players either being fairly solid or completely maniacal. The number of nutcases is incredible. With no hand histories (at least not useful hand histories) on Cake, I have preserved some hands from the last few hours by taking screeshots to show you what I mean. These games are like 2001 Party Poker, or 2003 Bodog, the weakest games I have ever played. This is almost like live poker on a Saturday night. Witness the examples below for the kind of play you are likely to see in these games.

In the hand above we have an opponent who calls a 4.5 x raise from te small blind with 58s. A dubious play, but not automatically terrible. Then he calls a pot size bet on teh flop and a bet of more than half the pot on the turn before checking down the river with a busted inside straight draw. It's possible to play poker worse than this, but you have to try very very hard and lose every dollar you can to get to this level of incompetence.
I'm sure I don't need to tell you that it's a bad idea to push for 40x the big blind with KJ...
I had already seen this player do some insane things or I would never have played AJ against him. In this case I thought it was very likely that I was ahead, and I actually got him to put almost half his stack in the middle preflop with T3o. Of course I lost the hand, but I more than made it back from him later.
Here we have a player getting all-in preflop by calling a huge overbet wth QTs...
A massive overbet on the river on Cake is often the nuts, and you should be folding to most of them, but I had been watching this guy carefully, and he was pushing with big overbets any time he saw two checks. Notice the preflop min-raise with 62s.
Here we have a min raise from a player I knew was very weak and loose, and a call from a fairly solid player who I knew would always reraise with a real hand. Any solid player at the micro-limits will usually isolate when they have a real hand. I pushed, and the weak player called me with K3s while the solid player folded. Don't push all-in with every AK, it's not always a godo play at all, but when you find a very weak player who will call with hands like K3s, AK looks like the nuts. If there are more players yet to act you can't play it this way as some of the solid players will only call with KK or AA.
I am definitely incorporating the strange play on Cake into the guide, and if you aren't comfortable taking notes, playing tight, and waiting for solid hands you may want to wait for the guide before you jump in.

| I just deposited with my bank debit card and I had no problem. I haven't made a withdrawal lately, but I know someone who uses their EChecks and says it works well. | |

| I agree the games on Cake are incredibly weak. I did stop playing there though when E-Passporte quit supporting online gaming sites. What other deposit/withdraw method do you recommend for Cake? | |
