Sunday Blogging Sunday!
Sunday, November 16th 2008 12:56 pm |
I'm going to try and keep a running blog as I play my Sunday schedule today. For obvious reasons, I will not be talking about individual hands or my specific strategy in these tournaments. Instead I will try to give evryone a sense of the emotional journey that a poker player goes on throughout the day. The action begins with the Sunday Warm-Up on Pokerstars. Large field Sunday tournaments are usually filled with lots of poor players but my starting table has fellow PXF instructor AJKHoosier1 (ranked # 1 online) and Varico (an aggressive Spanish regular.) Weeeeee!
Update#1
Next game on the schedule is the Pokerstars $109 $50k gntd. This tournament is a must play game on Sunday since the filed size is 2-3x larger than on any other day of the week. It gets upwards of 1200 people almost every Sunday making it a "miny major" with a 1st prize today of $23k today. That's pretty sweet for a $109 tournament!
Update#2
Out of the Warm Up...the key hand was a go and go vs Varico:

Update#3
On break in the 50k - we have 4085 thanks to turning a flush vs top pair. Pokerstars $100r $300k gntd and FTOPS#24 about to begin. JohnnyBelow on my right in FTOPS....You will also see me playing some smaller buyins today such as the Full Tilt $26 $27k gntd and the $20r $17k gntd. Getting deep in one of these smaller events can help cover the cost of buyins on Sunday and since the play is fairly striaghtforward they don't require very much attention in the early stages.
Update#4
Out of the $50k gntd - ran OE straight draw into KK then:

Update#5
We have 5 tables going right now:
4260 at break in FTOPS#2
2305 at break in the $27k gntd
5645 in the $17k with 20 mins left in rebuy period
Full Tilt $163 $50k gntd and Pokerstars $55 $125k gntd just underway....
Update#6
Sundays are long days for MTT grinders. I think it's important to be prepared when you sit down at the table. I keep drinks and snacks nearby and I'm prepared to play for 12-16 hour if things go well. I choose my games carefully cause even though I'm going to playing a lot of tables, I don't want to get bogged down with two many games starting at once. Don't set yourself up to fail - have a plan and execute it! A few updates on the games going right now:
Doubled up in FTOPS and the $27k gntd!! Have 7695 after adding on in the $17k gntd. I am below my starting stack in the $50k gntd and the $125k gnt....
Update#7
3.5 hours into what I hope to be a very long day and things are going ok. Signed up for 8 games so far - busted out of 3. The Sunday Million will be starting up soon. I have had two very deep runs in the last three weeks, finishing 47th 3 weeks ago and 14th last week. It feels good to beat out over 7000 people and have a chance for the big score but it's also painful to get so close and come up short. The goal today is rather simple - try to beat out 13 more people than I beat last week!!
Update#8
Did I secretly discover a superuser account in this hand?

No - it's just Sunday and the players are really bad!! LOL
Update#9
I'm out of FTOPS#24 - up and down ride at the end but the bottom line is I have one less tournament to focus on now. Not really deep in anything yet and don't really have great stacks anywhere either. It's time to grind it out now and try to get deep in something.
Update#10
Out of the million - lost a flip early in hour#2 with AK<JJ. This leaves with 4 games right now.
94/107 in the $17k gntd
209/271 in the $50k gntd(Full Tilt)
221/284 in the $18k gntd
758/1444 in the $50k gntd (Stars)
FTOPS ME starting soon along with the Sunday Second Chance.
Update#11
FTOPS ME = 7500 starting chips and 15 minute levels!!!! That's pretty sick imo.
Update#12
Down to 3 games now: FTOPS ME, Second Chance and $21k gntd. Got my first cashof the day in the Tilt $50k gntd.I lost a pot with 55 vs TTand AK to leave myself very short but ended up hanging on for a min cash. Slow start to FTOPS - I have 7965 at 1st break.
Update#13
Out of FTOPS ME and the $21k gntd. Overall I haven't played too well today which happens from time to time. The key is regaining your focus. I have one game remaining for the night - here's to hoping I can at least end the night playing well.
Update#14
Focus. Discipline. Mental Awareness. They are as much poker skills as bet sizing, stack size management, and hand selectio. I wasted some chances earlier today cause my focus slipped. I have played a lot of poker the last few days and it is possible I was a little burned out. Know thyself.....As for my remaining tournament (Second Chance), I'm sitting 20/262. I have 31k chips at 400/800 and I'm very tuned in to my opponents. GAME ON!
Update#15
We just went to the third break and I have 37k chips which is good for 35/176. 171 spots pay tonight so we may have some room to punish the bubble a bit after the break. There are $53k reasons for me to keep focused for the duration and only human weakness stands in my way. Let's get it done!
Final Update
So we were crusing along playing super poker, worked my stack up to 57k without a showdown when we were dealt the following hand:
