The Games are Back

More and more over the last few months I see really weak players at big games in quantities that I haven't seen in a few years. Any experienced Omaha Hi player can tell you that you can't get all-in in a raised pot with top pair of jacks and no draw unless your opponent is both shortstacked and very overaggressive and overly loose. Against an even semi-solid player I check and fold on this flop in most cases, but I had notes on this guy that he was way overaggro and bluffy and he had a short stack so I went ahead and committed myself on the flop. My play wasn't brilliant, it was easy based on my read and his short stack. What is amazing is that he raised knowing that I would call and he had just about nothing.

If I had a hand like AJ94 I think I can't even bet in to this pot, but the backup of a backdoor draw in case he has two pair or a set gives me some outs against those hands. Don't try this at home unless you ahve a very strong read, because I knew I was taking a risk here and could have run in to a big hand, but I believed the bet was the right one.

I only had played about 40 hands with this guy, but in that time he had shoved twice in the NLHE section with nothing and I really thought he could shove with very little here. I figured I was about even or a slight dog against his range if he shoved over the top, but with money already in the pot I thought it was the best way to play the hand. My play of the hand is debatable, but his play was my focus here, I really think it was terrible to reraise all-in with a king high flush draw and nothing else. Seeing that sort of play from multiple opponents in a 20/40 7-game mix was awesome.

Villain did have the diamond draw, so Hero really wasn't that far ahead here, as it turns out (about 54-46 according to the CardPlayer Omaha calculator). Of course once you bet the pot then you're getting great pot odds (6-1 I think) to call Villain's all-in raise.

Did Villain's range include worse hands, such as TPWK or 2nd pair with no draws?
