Help me create a tourney?
Thursday, November 12th 2009 7:54 pm

I have the opportunity to create tournaments and sit and gos on the new network I am working with and I have already put together the usual suspects as well as a $5 heads up flip tourney, but I'm looking for new ideas. If there is a tourney or SNG that you would like to play that most sites don't offer, or have a new idea for one of them, comment here in the blog. Keep in mind that the network only offers Holdem for now, though alternate games are on the way soon.

There will also be a tourney before the Wednesday Webinar every week and a freeroll during the Webinar, though it will be a few weeks before those get rolling.

Learn about the new network -HERE- if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm also happy to take votes for next week's Wednesday Webinar. The choices are ICM and Nash Theory for tournaments, General Poker Theory, andmaking the transition from cash to tournaments. It will be a mix of all the topics, but I'd like to hear which parts of those things are important to the people who will be showing up. If I know what you want to hear I can prepare better for hte presentation. Show up on time at 9 p.m. EST if you want to hear the presentation, it will start at a few minutes after the hour and be recorded for a podcast as well.

Low stake rebuys with 15min levels
1, 2 and 3 dollar rebuys always pull the crowds. IMHO

Lots of comments, thanks guys. I will definitely talk to the people in charge at PPN about getting these things set up.

Was a big fan of the 90man double stack sng on tilt until they made it a turbo knockout.
Any rakeback offered with the new site?

the best tournament in the universe. check it out. a super turbo knockout rebuy tournament! you start out with 300 chips - 600 if you rebuy and for every time you bust someone you get like $1 bounty $2 if they started with a double stack. like every buy in would be worth $1. rebuys go to the first hour. 3 min blind levels. most online tourneys are donk fests anyways the first hour so why not be able to cash in!

For the Webinar, I'd like to hear more discussion of ICM as it relates to MTT's (as opposed to SNG's). It would be good to see some analysis of situations in which the $ev may vary significantly from the chip ev, such as when the step into the money is big, e.g. 2x or 3x entry fee, or when there's a double up when moving up from 10th to 9th, etc. Is it possible to take into account the presence of short stacks/ultra short stacks when making these calculations?

I'm not sure how much control I have over blind levels at this point, but I'll look in to that. I can control starting stacks and starting blinds and the amount of time between increases, but that's it so far.

If you think people push/fold badly (they do) then you'll love the 20 BB maximum buy-in no-limit table with two big blinds that I will have in the cash games area.

For those of you that don't like shortstacking, I have a 60BB minimum, 150 BB maximum NLHE game set up as well.

if you're talking about non-turbos then no more than 10 min levels with the same structure imo

make sure your SNGs have antes, and i would create a structure something like stars' STT structure but add a level between 100/200/a and 200/400/a, maybe 150/300/a. but you can't really go wrong with the old party structure..[/nostalgia]

9- or 10-handed doesn't make too much of a difference imo. start with probably 75-100BBs and have the structure fairly gradual, but not too slow that games take forever. idk find some mix between FTP's and stars' imo. depending on your number of levels, somewhere between 3 and 5 minute levels should be fine.

also, super turbos w/ 10BB starting stacks and 3 min levels would be stellar. people push/fold sooooo poorly

Great suggestions on the Webinar EE. I had not even thought about that style of SNG, I'll see if it's possible, but so far I think I can only decide blinds, stacks, minutes per level and players. I might do a starting stack of 1k, starting blinds of 25/50 and levels of 15 minutes. Interesting dynamics in a game like that.

Also, two possible topics I'd love to see in a Wednesday Webinar are: 1) Using software to plug leaks in your game (relating back to this article from pokersoftware.com: http://www.pokersoftware.com/articles/2009/03/using-poker-software-to-plug-leaks-in-your-game.html) and 2) Finding hidden edges through player analysis and how to exploit them (one elementary example could be deliberately sitting immediately to the right of people who seldom protect their blinds in Hold 'em.)

Casting my official vote for the resurrection of the 1-hand-per-player-per-level SnG, ala the old 10-man, 10-hands-per-level Party Poker system. Still the best SnG structure of all time, IMO.
